Blackguard Suggestions

Postby tooitalian » Thu Aug 14, 2014 2:05 am

The blackguard is the quintessential black knight.

Base Attack Bonus: +6
Alignment: any evil
Skills: Hide 5 ranks, Knowledge (religion) 2 ranks suggest changing this to K-Religion 5, Intimidate 2, Bluff 2
Feats: Cleave, Improved Sunder, Power Attack Really don't see anything to change here
Special: The character must have made peaceful contact with an evil outsider who was summoned by him or someone else. This is just fluff, but if a Blackguard is a black KNIGHT, I would like this to be "The character must be appointed by a high ranking member of the church of his deity or by the deity himself.

Hit die
Skill points
2 + Int No problems here

All of the class feats seem fitting with what's up above, even if they are underpowered in most peoples opinion. He's supposed to be more of a melee type anyways. However, there is one class feature that could be improved.

The Blackguard's Fiendish Servant
Upon or after reaching 5th level, a blackguard can call a fiendish bat, cat, dire rat, horse, pony, raven, or toad to serve him. (See the Monster Manual for these creatures’ basic statistics.) This creature may be used as a guardian (such as a bat), a helper (such as a cat), or a mount (such as a horse). The blackguard’s servant further gains HD and special abilities based on the blackguard’s character level (see the table).
A blackguard may have only one fiendish servant at a time. Should the blackguard’s servant die, he may call for another one after a year and a day. The new fiendish servant has all the accumulated abilities due a servant of the blackguard’s current level.
The abilities mentioned in the “Special” column of the accompanying table are described below.

They are supposed to be more like mounts and less like familiars, but neither of those work out. I propose this list instead: dire bat, dire rat, dire badger, heavy warhorse, boar, black bear, crocodile, large viper snake, leopard, wolf, wolverine.

I'm tired, and this is all I have so far. Any other suggestions please post :)
