Bumping AS Someone hadn't seen this post and hadn't known there is a gathering! We already have people getting time off so for Their COnvenience, PLS Decide:

May, 23-26, Memorial Day Weekend to take advantage of the extra weekday off--

OR

May 30-1 or 2, Which Does not include a standard US holiday but some could take time off of work with vacation days etc, AND more kids are OFF SCHOOL that weekend? (This weekend has been requested by one member!!)

Thanks!!

ALSO apparently I need to post WHERE it will be:

Keokuk, Iowa: The individual address will be sent to you when you confirm you are coming, along with our other contact info.

This is in the bit of Iowa which just DRIPS off the map on the SE corner, and we are very close to both the Des Moines River and the Mississippi River. Also 5 miles from HW 27, also known as Avenue of the Saints. Also 1 mile off HW 62, also known as Argyle Road.

Keokuk is a small town, about 13K people but is one of the major crossing points over the Mississippi River.

Greyhound bus service is in Keokuk. 20 Min away in Ft. Madison is Amtrak. Plane service is in Quincy, Il (Cape Air Airlines, 49$ a ticket for anyone) and they fly east too or to St Louis if you arent going East. ALSO, Cedar Rapids has an international airport and is 2 hrs-2.5 hrs away, and you can rent a car there.

We have camping and hookups available, and very limited space inside (very limited!) and have RV rental places nearby-- its a BIG deal. I have some camping equip and a tent or two and a pavillion. Will have to go through the equip and see.

Out here is Very Rural. Houses are about a mile between to a half mile between except my parents in law who are across the road (a block away!). In May to late May you can expect Hot to Cool weather at any given moment. In case of storms we will Figure Shit Out and we DO have a basement!

Hope this helps, and if you have special needs or considerations, please let me know in a PM or here as you wish.

Again, unsure of my actual attendance but I can certainly help with logistics for people flying/training/bussing/etc into St. Louis (which might be easier/cheaper/faster). I've made the drive to Keokuk before and it's not so bad. If you can get to St. Louis, I'll probably be able to take a car load of you up (free!)

Decided Upon:
The Weekend AFTER Memorial Day, as June absolutely COULD not be there otherwise and No one else objected.

May 30, June 1, June 2!!!

Advantage: Warmer! In Iowa, Critical that time of year!

UPDATE!
SPring has Sprung. ISH. After a horrid winter, one advantage to the country location is that we are still having thawing/freezing periods, and harsh ones, in late March. SO, bugs keep hatching and freezing to death. This is nice. Makes for promising outdoorsy things in May and June.

SPEAKING OF WHICH:
IS ANYONE UNFROZEN ENOUGH and still having enough leave this year to consider coming to this event?? I know the winter was vicious and cars broke on the ice and some people got nearly creamed by trains and such. Expnsive!
DATE: May 30, 1, 2.

Pls post or PM! (rosemadder)
Thanks!

It is likely that I will be able to make it with me preparing to go to Illinois I will be in the area and with my work schedule there is at least a 50% chance that I will already have off for a three day weekend. I will keep you guys posted.

I had an idea

Postby Sprall » Mon Jan 26, 2015 5:39 pm

So I had this idea, it been on my mind for a few years now so im looking for some input. My idea is to hand tool children's toys; You know building blocks, alphabet blocks, stick horses and the like and sell them on E-bay and crafts/consignment stores eventually building my own website to sell them.
Eventually branching out and doing side things like jewelry boxes and stools for standing up on. Stuff like that.

I don't know much about web building or E-bay but hey it's a thought.

What do you guys think?
