A necessary measure

Postby Kemian » Sat Jan 02, 2010 10:00 pm

Evander waited outside of Elder Perenold's office nervously. He had a fairly good idea the man already knew what this meeting was about and had probably already determined if he would grant his request but that did not mean that Evander was not nervous about making the request. He was loath to request church resources be used in any way to accommodate his own purposes but this wasn't about him. This was about setting Kethean's mind to ease and about making certain he brought the people that were wreaking havoc and causing pain and suffering to others to justice. So Evander exhaled deeply when Elder Perenold called him into his office and prepared to request one of two Followers of Tyr to escort him in public for the time being.

Taan visits Evander quietly one night, approaching him in a friendly fashion and showing that he is not armed. He tells Evander that the best way to deal with assassins is to capture them and have a temple interrogate them. He says that it's easy to capture an assassin if you have right tools.

"Listen here, friend. I know a fellow who has a friend that knows a fellow that deals in potions that put people to sleep like little babies that just had their fill of mommy's special teet. Poke one of these would be assassins with it, and he'll sleep nice and sound, quick as you blink. Then you can send him off to your temple for a little magical analysis. And if he's warded from that business, I could always torture him for you, so you don't get your hands dirty. You pay me, I'll buy for you. I won't even ask for a finders fee. Let's just say we're friends."

Evander's response to Sablac had not been what the Half Orc expected, somewhat less than favorable would be a mild way of putting it. Still at the break of dawn the next morning Evander awaited Sablac. When he arrived. He instructed the half orc that he would not need his weapons or armor and put them in a safe place.

When he was properly dressed and prepared to be of service, Evander instructed Sablac to go through the main ward of the hospice to change out the morning chamber pots. When that was done he had a mop and hot water prepared for cleanliness was critical to stopping the spread of disease.

Evander had prepared all of the least glamorous tasks he could think of ready for the half orc to perform.

Taan eagerly got to work. He smiled and hummed a tune to himself as he got to work. He made a lot of conversation with the locals, asking about the the goings on in the city and beyond. Taan ate a lot of food though, and really helped himself at lunch.

Around the middle of the afternoon Evander comes to Sablac and nodded, "You have put in a hard days work. One of valuable service. I will see you tomorrow at dawn."

The next day is filled with back breaking menial work in the morning and time spent caring for the sick in the afternoon.

Taan showed up the next day looking a little sick. He explained that he had almost been killed by a wight that had crawled into the Yawning Portal from the underdark. But, Taan got to work, even if he was cranky all day and didn't talk much.
