Delivering a message.

The room filled with smoke but fresh air rolled in low through the hole where the doors had been. He lowered himself toward the floor for the fresher air. Macallan, still smoking himself, rolled the charred remains of the corpse over, looking for anything of substance. Weapons were merely heaps of slag, clothing torched to ash. He gagged, turning to puke as the putrid stench of the burnt flesh overwhelmed him. The crispy remains cracked and bubbled as it moved, pussy ooze seeping out between the cracks. He leaned on the remains of the desk next to where the corpse lay smoking.

He gathered himself together, collected his few remaining belongings from the room, stuffed much of them into his satchel. He touched the place where the documents from work had been, nothing but dust on the charred surface. There was nothing more to be done here.

He looked out into the hall. A guard lay beneath the shattered doors. The man's chest rose and fell, so nothing permanent in the way of damage to the guard.

Macallan rose to his feet and limped out of his bedroom past the fallen guard. His hair was gone along with his eyebrows. His face and hands were blistered. His night shirt was mostly gone, mere burnt rags upon his body. Smoldering inside as well as outside, Macallan moved along the hall suppressing his rage. Staff stumbled up the stairs toward family's chambers, find the source of the explosion.

Hat in hand, "Get a cleric. Alert the guards. Check on the rest of the family." he said, pointing toward the one in the lead. "And somebody get me some Zzar."

The staff stirred into motion. The chamberlain directing maids to get dressed. set to work cleaning up the room. The charred remains of the furniture were removed, windows opened to air the chamber. Another bed, desk, and chest of drawers would need to be procured. All his clothes were needing to be replaced, not a one was whole or free of char. And security would need to be increased.

He would need to talk with each and every member of the house staff. These people had way too much knowledge of his bed chamber.

Nearing noon the following day, Macallan stood outside a specific home owned by House Anteos. He reached out and slammed the door knocker. The four guards with him set down the chest on the front step.

Macallan and the guards turned, marching off without waiting for the door to be answered. The message was delivered.
