Goblins

Yasgul Skullsplitter, a half orc, has been inquiring about the activity of goblinoids in the vicinity of Waterdeep. He is especially interested in smaller bands of goblins that might be attacked by adventurers.

Yasgul would ask woodsmen types, and miner types that hang around the mountains.

The mountains are quite a ways away from the coastal city of Waterdeep, so it'd be a tad impractical to find out about goblins by going that far. HOWEVER, an old nutcase by the name of Obal Verdun seems to be spewing wild tales, sometimes involving goblins, during his tavern visits. His prickly hair sets him apart from most others, and his trademarked three-toed cane ought to give him away.

NOTE: This is open to all who are interested, although tales of goblins likely wouldn't interest higher-leveled folks who've met too many to count. ((Levels 1-4 would be most fitting.))

Find me in the OOC for a Gather Info roll, but RP to see the results. Mind you, you can definitely talk to people without rolling dice.

I simply missed this. I'm sure I can throw one of my chars in for an adventure. I'll do GI rolls or get Clara to talk to Yasgul or something.

In a town half a league north of Daggerford, a motley crew of five adventurers sent by a mysterious hooded midget went to investigate the recent conflagrations in the area. They arrived to find several huts in the process of being burnt down as small crews of goblins scavenged metal goods from the burning homes. As the explorers neared, one of the goblins pointed the group out!

In the small skirmish that began, Bizzko blasted a pair of belligerent bolts, taking out a victim before it could process its thoughts. Meanwhile, Sjach, Lyathdar, Rhedd, and Karlist showered arrows upon the startled goblin band, slaughtering several. In the return fire, Lyathdar and Sjach received solid blows from javelin throws.

As the creatures drew near to exchange blows, a pair of wolves teamed up to end one's misery, as the not-so-itsy-nor-bitsy spider blasted one goblin with an acidic beam and chewed off the face of another.

The ugly creatures were soon wiped out, but not before one managed to get its hands on its bone whistle! Soon after, armed reinforcements began to arrive, marking their presence with a bedlam of clanging metal, thudding boots, and shouts.

Seconds before they arrived, the party dashed behind a hut for cover. Anticipating that a burning house would be a rather problematic source of concealment, Lyathdar hurriedly doused it in water and joined the others. All were silent, save for perhaps Bizzko, who let out a snicker at the sight of his pet feasting on goblin bits.

The cacophony drew near; Karlist stole a glance around the corner, serving as the group's eyes.

The second surge of goblins scuffled into view, and the group arranged themselves behind the cover of the recently-extinguished home, preparing for a second goblin encounter. The sound of furniture being overturned and broken was heard from within the house. Indeed, the legion of goblins neared. One of them must have heard Bizzko's nasal voice as he finished muttering the incantation for Mage Armor. The percipient bluntly pointed it out in his native tongue: "Snogg hear funny noise!" Thus, the skirmish began.

The goblins forces split asunder to seek out those who had slaughtered their kin and interrupted their task. Those on one side were met by a barrage of projectiles; a ray of salt desiccated the head of one, while a beautifully crafted arrow sailed past another. A crossbow bolt sunk itself at the feet of the other trio of goblins once Karlist was spotted. Sjach ran forth from around the corner, catching the goblins off guard for a moment. Unfortunately, they managed to gather their senses by the time he approached and charged their assailants.

Meanwhile, the trio of goblins that was now reduced to a duo charged forth with long, pointed spears. One lodged into Lyathdar's leg, nearly maiming him. Rhedd hastily drew a cutlass, stepping forth to slash down her friend's aggressor. The goblin fell with a bloody grin and said a foreboding, "They'll get you..."

Sjach was assaulted once more by a pair of goblins. The first time, he had barely dodged one of the spear tips. This time, it was not so--he was skewered by two wooden shafts, leaving him in a bloody mess. Luckily for Karlist, his abjurations and protective magic kept the other goblin's spear point at bay. He let out a bolt at its head, singing its cheek.

The remaining goblin at the back of the house went for Rhedd, dealing a blow for a blow. He had not anticipated that Tiina would hurl a glob of web in his face, nor had he anticipated the well-placed arrow from Lyathdar that finished him.

Aerathern lept up from behind the house, pulverizing the head of the goblin trying to skewer Karlist. Seeing their comrades dead, the last two goblins fled in fear.

Only the crackling of flames was heard as the footsteps of the fleeing goblins faded. A chilling breeze whistled by. All was quiet on the northern front. As soon as she saw her felled companion, Rhedd rushed over to stop his hemorrhaging. Her hands glowed from a Mielikki's blessing as she closed Sjach's wounds.

Bizzko and Karlist decided to rummage the house in search of medical supplies. All that they managed to find were slightly-charred bedsheets, which were cut into pieces as bandages for Sjach's brutal wounds. In their search, it occured to Karlist that not a single scrap of metal was to be found in the house, whatsoever. The doorknob was missing, as were the bolt that would have held the door in place. In fact, even the goblins' spears had been crafted solely of wood.

Having heard something, Lyathdar headed off to the north in search of its source. He followed the goblin tracks, only to find faint, four-pronged footprints leading to an extinguished brick building. As soon as he set foot inside, an arrow whizzed through the air and silently impaled his chest. He dropped where he stood, and his body was dragged behind an overturned table. "So it's true," quietly mused a voice in the room.

The party regrouped once Sjach was up and on his feet again, as it suddenly dawned upon Rhedd that Lyathdar had been gone for quiet some time, now. Leading Aerathern and Varg, she led the others right to the only other building in sight that hadn't been consumed by fire.
